To make a Harry Potter Sorting Hat you need a witch hat pattern & 1 1/4 yard vinyl. I made a pattern with a .50cent thrifted witch hat taken apart. I cut out the hat taller than the pattern by a few inches. Sew your cone together then grab it in different places and sew a dart. Sew your dart about 1 inch. Turn your cone right side out and sew on the brim. My brim needs some wire sewn around the outside and it will be complete. Also sew 1 inch wide 1 foot length ties to the hat to look like the sorting hat. I love how the face turned out.

Adult Harry Potter Robe from a Twin Sheet
I purchased one black twin sheet for $5
The robe/cloak is the larger piece and the sleeves are the 17 inch piece. The sleeves need to be cut apart and the extra piece is for the hood. Once my pieces were cut out I sewed as follows:
Bring edges to the center of cloak/robe piece. Sew the shoulder together & sew on hood after sewing the shoulders together. Sew the seams of the sleeves and attach to the cloak piece were you made slits for the sleeve (arm hole).
*To add lining, make two identical robes and put right sides together and sew around the front & hood piece to finish. Turn the cloak right side out. Trim the sleeves to the correct length for your arms (I cut off 4 inches). Iron a 1/4 inch seam allowance at the end of the sleeves and sew lining together with robe.
** The Ravenclaw crest is from a napkin and I laminated it. I will sew it on, or glue it on, or wait for an iron on patch.
***Can also attach a button or hook/eye, etc to the robe/cloak to keep closed.
