DIY Harry Potter Sorting Hat

To make a Harry Potter Sorting Hat you need a witch hat pattern & 1 1/4 yard vinyl.  I made a pattern with a .50cent thrifted witch hat taken apart.  I cut out the hat taller than the pattern by a few inches.  Sew your cone together then grab it in different places and sew a dart.  Sew your dart about 1 inch.  Turn your cone right side out and sew on the brim.  My brim needs some wire sewn around the outside and it will be complete.  Also sew 1 inch wide 1 foot length ties to the hat to look like the sorting hat.  I love how the face turned out.

Adult Harry Potter Robe from a Twin Sheet

I purchased one black twin sheet for $5

and with the following instructions was able to make an adult Harry Potter Robe.  I also made a blue lining one for the Ravenclaw House.  First I took out the large top seam of the sheet to give me a few more inches that are needed.  Then I folded the sheet as follows and cut:

The robe/cloak is the larger piece and the sleeves are the 17 inch piece.  The sleeves need to be cut apart and the extra piece is for the hood.  Once my pieces were cut out I sewed as follows:
Bring edges to the center of cloak/robe piece.  Sew the shoulder together & sew on hood after sewing the shoulders together.  Sew the seams of the sleeves and attach to the cloak piece were you made slits for the sleeve (arm hole).

*To add lining, make two identical robes and put right sides together and sew around the front & hood piece to finish.  Turn the cloak right side out.  Trim the sleeves to the correct length for your arms (I cut off 4 inches).  Iron a 1/4 inch seam allowance at the end of the sleeves and sew lining together with robe.

** The Ravenclaw crest is from a napkin and I laminated it.  I will sew it on, or glue it on, or wait for an iron on patch.

***Can also attach a button or hook/eye, etc to the robe/cloak to keep closed.

Mini Golf Course

My carpenter brother gave me some scrap wood and the thought came to me to make a mini golf course.  I cut 4x8 sheets of plywood in half length wise.  I nailed 2x2's on the under side and 1x2's on the top.  I cut 4" pvc pipe for the cups. I cut and added outdoor green carpet with the 1x2's on top of the carpet. The tiny green circles and cut from felt and tell where to start each course.  I am thrilled with how this turned out.

Harry Potter Mandrakes

To make a Mandrake start with a terra cotta pot, $1 store dolls, artificial plant, fabric strips, floral block, and moss if desired.

Remove the dolls clothes and hair

Prepare the pot with the floral block while the glue gun heats up.

I start gluing a fabric strip to the top of the dolls head and wrap it around the head continually adding glue.

I then move to the body and arms.  There is no need to go past the waist.  The legs will be stuck into the floral foam.  Paint the fabric on the doll a brown color.

Stick the doll into the floral foam and glue your artificial plant leaves on top of the head.  Add moss as desired.
